A December Wedding to Remember

The final wedding of a fabulous 2010 was at the Lodge at Torrey Pines where I had a great time entertaining Jamie and Cody, as well as their mostly out of town guests. They were so ready to party, that the bride and her bridesmaids were up and on the dance floor before the dinner was completed.

When that happens you know it's going to be a good time.

A big thanks to my "partner in crime" Emily Smiley, who I worked with on this night, as well as a handful in 2010. It was a great year and I look forward to another fun filled year as I continue to create memories through music.

Feeling So Fly at the Abbey in San Diego

While I do DJ parties for friends every so often, it's not as often that I DJ their weddings. Natasha and Erik's wedding was one that I looked forward to for well over one year. Natasha is a great friend and former colleague of mine. From the day she was engaged to the moment she walked into the reception at the Abbey, I was always getting updates on the big day.

It was a blast seeing many other mutual friends at the party; always nice to see familiar faces on the dance floor. I also had the chance to work alongside photographer Bobby Earle once again, and it's always a great time being around him. Here are some of his photos from that day.

House Party .. A Wedding House Party

Brandon and Kim are part of a group of friends that I have known since I moved out to San Diego in 1999. In fact, they were the first group of people I hung out with back in those days when I didn't know anyone out here.

Over the years, many from "the group" have married and I have been privileged to spin the tunes at several of those weddings. There wedding party was at Levyland, in Carlsbad Calif. A cool rental house, right on the beach.

Secluded Fall Wedding in Fallbrook

Elyse and Nate got down at Los Willows a great event venue in Fallbrook, CA, just north of San Diego. Here are few highlights from the dance floor.

Oceanfront Dance Party

Lindsey, Jamie and 50 of their closest friends and family descended upon the La Jolla Shores Hotel for their beachside wedding ceremony and reception. As I mentioned in the earlier setlist post, it was a great dance party and provided a first for me, the playing of Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know." What a great pop song! That, as well as a few other highlights are included in the video below.

Isabel and Long's Wedding

John and Deanna's Magical Hotel Del Wedding

John and Deanna put on quite a party for their guests on August 14, 2010 at the Hotel del Coronado, in Coronado, California. It was another spectacular soiree orchestrated by Emily Smiley, decorated by Karen Tran and photographed beautifully by Darin Fong.

I have a very short highlight video, since I only played a 60 minute set. But for what it's worth, here you go.

Rob and Melissa's Dance Party Highlights

Oh man .... what a day this was. I'm no stranger to two gigs in one day, but this one really tested my stamina. I love it all, but beach and boat gigs are the toughest by far. There are the elements to deal with (which really isn't too bad in San Diego) such as the sun, rain, wind, etc. And the set-up is much more difficult. Go ahead, try hauling around audio gear in the sand or up the narrow stairs of a yacht.

But it was all worth it once Melissa and Rob's dance parties kicked off. Along with their friends, they all came in from out of town, mostly Chicago. So this party took full advantage of the Southern California outdoors. Hence the double party ... one in the afternoon, another a night.

Matt and Heidi's Wedding

I was so touched by Heidi's email, that I thought I better get my heiny in gear, edit and post her and Matt's post gig video. So, here are a few highlights of the their July 31, 2010 party at the Lodge at Torrey Pines in beautiful La Jolla, California. Keep in mind, it's just shot from my SLR. No special lighting or anything, just what I have to work with, while DJ'ing. The ultimate in multi-tasking!

Sandra and Tim's Wedding Higlights

Sandra, Tim and about 100 of their friends and family descended upon Coronado for this great dance party.

I believe Sandra is getting down in nearly every one of these clips, which just goes to show that if the bride is on the dance floor so is everyone else. I do want to mention that this was a huge room for the size of the party. It probably could have fit 300. So it makes the dance floor a little small.

Ian and Amy's Spectacular Wedding

Without a doubt, this was one of the most gorgeous events I have ever been a part of. The wedding of Ian and Amy at the Lodge at Torrey Pines was truly another Emily Smiley fine soiree. The picture on the left was taken by Bobby Earle, whom I was excited to work with again (we met for the first time last year at Barry and Julia's wedding at the Hotel del Coronado). Platinum Pro did a great job with the uplighting and custom dance floor. I recommend them exclusively for this type of work! The grammy nominated Luis Villgeas Band warmed the crowd with Spanish guitar version of Lady Gaga and other pop hits and then made way for me to play the real stuff. Here's a highlight video I put together ... it's just a little something to tide us over until we get to see Jason Taylor's pro shots!

Adrienne and Ryan's Nightclub

Ryan and Adrienne are a couple that live in Seattle, but met in Del Mar, California five years ago. They returned to the same city they met for an extraordinary wedding at L'Auberge.

Since they enjoyed their reception on an outdoor terrace, the hotel's ballroom was solely used for dancing. It was if they had their own nightclub for the evening. When it was time to move everyone into the "club" I introduced the bride and groom with an energetic countdown, then mixed in to Lady Gaga's, Alejandro. The party was on from there!

Ashley and Patrick's Wedding Video

A little something I have added to my repertoire is a post gig video highlight package. Now, don't expect much. After all, I'm still spinning tunes and need to concentrate on that, but technology has enabled the art of multi-tasking a little easier.

To do this, I set my Nikon D90, digital SLR camera on top of booth and shoot away at various points in the evening. The purpose is to capture a few moments on the dance floor. Hopefully it gives my future clients a little insight into what I do. But most of all, I'm happy to provide the video to the respective bride and groom, many of whom may not have had hired a videographer at all (as was the case in this video).

Below is Patrick and Ashley's wedding at the Thursday Club in Point Loma (San Diego). Just two days after the gig, I posted it to my Facebook and shared it with Ashley.

"That is awesome," she said. "We were just talking about how we wished we had some videos. Thanks so much for a great party. We had a wonderful night!"
