R.I.P. Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain died 17 years ago today.

From 1993-1995, Nirvana (and a host of other grunge rock) was the soundtrack of Centennial Hall - my dorm at Truman State University. Listening to Kurt’s scratchy tone reminds me of coming back from class in the late afternoon or getting ready to roll out on a Friday night.

This acoustic version of Come As You Are is one of my favorites. My favorite lyric? It's simple:

Come as you are,
As you were
As I want you to be
As a friend

Enjoy!

Chris and Tessie's Setlist

A broken leg (the groom was injured just a week before the wedding) and a steady rain throughout the night didn't stop this couple and their guests from getting down all night. Chris, Tessie and their mostly out of town guests had a great time dancing to some classic disco and hip hop.

It was a fabulous night at the Scripps Seaside Forum in La Jolla.

For me, I was excited to finally get to a gig after a long winter break and bust out some new material such as Rihanna's "S&M" and Pink's "Raise Your Glass." We even had a little time for some girly pop with "Party in the U.S.A."

And the night ended sweetly with Train's, "Marry Me," a song that I'm sure I will hear a few more times this year. :)

Blogging Resumed

With a hectic schedule in October and the crazy November/December holiday season, I got way behind on blogging. In fact, I had a lot of material ready, I just had not got around to actually publishing anything. So you'll start seeing (or continue seeing) a flood of gig videos, recommendations, thank you notes, updates and hopefully a return to "My Favorite Lyric Tuesday."

I hope this message finds all of you well and that the new year is moving along wonderfully.

Finally, Bobby Earle (a fellow wedding vendor) says "blog posts are boring without photos." With that in mind here is a photo from a wedding last year (incidentally he took this picture.) It's my dear friend Natasha and I ... and bunny ears.

A December Wedding to Remember

The final wedding of a fabulous 2010 was at the Lodge at Torrey Pines where I had a great time entertaining Jamie and Cody, as well as their mostly out of town guests. They were so ready to party, that the bride and her bridesmaids were up and on the dance floor before the dinner was completed.

When that happens you know it's going to be a good time.

A big thanks to my "partner in crime" Emily Smiley, who I worked with on this night, as well as a handful in 2010. It was a great year and I look forward to another fun filled year as I continue to create memories through music.

Enjoy this gig video and for a full recap of all the songs I played that night, here is the setlist.

Jamie and Cody's Setlist

This year closed out with a fun December wedding at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. In fact, the party was so hopping that the guests and wedding party could not wait to get on the dance floor ... literally. The four course dinner was interrupted with some impromptu dancing. Once that happened, I knew we were in for something special.

I also particularly enjoyed kicking off the first dance set with Chicken Fried. Here in SoCal, I do not have the opportunity to play much country music, but I do love that Zac Brown Band song and it's perfect to kick of a dance set.

Here's the setlist.

Spooktacular Night at the Del

It's been a few years since I've DJ'd a Halloween party. What a great way to get back into the swing of things with having the honor of spinning at the inaugural Hotel del Coronado Halloween party. Platinum Pro provided an awesome dance floor, Emily Smiley planned it out to a tee, and Pam Scott took some great shots of the historic Crown Room, where the dance party took place. Check out Pam's pictures.
